How to organize photos
Organizing photos on your computer can be fun, useful and a recreation. There are lots of options and I will talk about some. Programs used to organize photographs are available for all platforms (Windows, Macintosh, Linux etc.) and even handheld devices, smartphones etc. Most pieces of organizing photo software here are for Windows, but versions for other platforms do exist.
Organizing photo software:
ACDSee
- legendary program that does it's function well and enables sharing photos
- organize photos by author information, category, rating, metadata, date - really a big number of parameters and many options for editing photos
- you can organize pictures on DVDs and CDs without copying them to computer
Google Picasa
- really nice organizing photo software that is easy to use and free!
- search tool enables searching by date, keyword, rating
- you can have albums with hierarchy different than that on your computer file system - this is a good trick if you want to organize pictures
- enables sharing photos via Gmail, sharing services like Shutterfly and Ofoto and other forms of sharing photos
- a decent amount of photo editing options (red-eye removal etc.)
Microsoft Digital Image
- extensive organize photos capabilities - you assign keywords, but you can also group keywords so that the program creates a deep hierarchy that enables you to search for things like: "Bob in Hawaii while swimming" etc. - this is very nice
- also organize photographs by other parameters like date etc.
- image editing component is good, but not top
- keeps getting better each new version
Corel Photo Album
- extensive list of organize photographs capabilities (by keywords, dates, recent downloads, collections etc.) along with one of the biggest, if not the biggest list of editing capabilities
- pretty easy to use having in mind all it offers
- help system inside of the program is very good
- enables sharing and backup of photos
CompuPic
- nice organize photo options - by keyword, category etc.
- problem with this program (for some) is that it's pretty advanced - i.e. not that easy to use as some other options
- low price is good
- enables sharing of digital photos like almost any other program today
Very simple option to organize photos:
Ok, so this is really basic, but some may find it the easiest, quickest and cheapest method. Just organize digital photos yourself! Have tidy directory structure on your computer (i.e. make folders like Birthday2005, SummerHoliday2007 etc.) and name your photos in an easy to read way. This is how many more advanced users organize photographs. In any way, just have good fun and don't struggle with something that is supposed to be a good time and recreation for you!

I use both Picasa and ACDSee. Both are good.
Best Regards
I use Picasa and Thumbs, but will have a look at the one's listed.
A great hub thanks
Hey, got any tips for hundreds of photos that are pre digital camera and sitting in several large containers in my closet? Sigh. Thank goodness for the digital age is all I can say.
