Total Visa credit card information

Total Visa credit card might be the solution for people with poor credit who want to get an unsecured credit card. Total Visa is issued by Plains Commerce Bank. Fees with this card are a bit high, but that's to be expected for a credit card for poor credit. Plains Commerce Bank (who issues the card) are offering an online application form for this card.

Good sides:

  • Easy to get with poor credit
  • Easy online application credit card
  • 25 days grace period (most cards have 20 days)
  • All the basic credit card functionality
  • Accepted where Visa logo is displayed
  • Reported to major credit bureaus

Bad sides:

  • Upfront fees
  • High annual fees
  • Some people are not very happy with this card, although they might expect too much from this poor credit rating card

What it offers:

  • 24-hour access by phone or online
  • Plains Commerce Bank states instant decision about application - whatever that means
  • As already mentioned - poor credit friendly and easy to get, but with quite high fees

Summary

Total Visa credit card is probably not the best poor credit rating credit card - you might prefer MasterCard Tribute or Orchard Bank MasterCard. Nevertheless, some people might find Total Visa the card to get for their poor credit. After all, it does offer all the basic credit card functionality.

Looks like a good offer for those who have poor credit.

Yes, but I do believe that Tribute MasterCard and Orchard Bank MasterCard (links to pages about those cards are in this article) are better. Some might want this one though.

I actually have had this card since February 2005. It has it's down sides ($10/month participation fee = $120 year) also, they carge the entire card limit when you get it ($250), however, they credit back $50 every 3 months that you make your payments on time. The interest is a bit high (19.92% APR), however with only a $250 limit, the interest is still very workable at maybe $3.50 per month even when the card is maxed out.

The GOOD side: They are very timely in refunding back the $50 every 3 months. In my two and a hlaf years of having this card, I have always made my payments on time, and try very hard to keep only around a $25 balance after each month's payment. They are also extrmely good at reporting to ALL 3 credit bureaus, and I have seen significant improvement of my credit score and rating since obtaining this card. In fact, this card is the ONLY credit I opened in the past two and a half years, and my score has increased an average of 30 points. Customer service is good, I have never had to wait to speak to an agent, however actually navigating the phone system, and being told to call a secondary number gets a bit confusing, as speaking to a person will require you to enter your entire card number twice, and listen to your account infor twice. All in all, a good "rebuild" card because it is technically "unsecured" for those who don't have the capital to put down for a secured card. it shows as a regular card on all credit reports, and the credit limit is managable. Just remember to make your payments!

You need to talk to the credit card company.

I have had this Total Card since July 2002. At that time I had TERRIBLE Credit - The fees sound steep, but this card has really helped me get my credit on the right track. I have since also obtained the other cards mentioned in this article. The Orchard bank card is not as bad in fees and interest rate, however their Customer Service is not the greatest, and it is nearly impossible to get credit limit increases (I have had it for 2 years and still can’t get an increase, even with keeping good standing, on time payments the entire time, and a substantial increase in my income), Total Card allows me to increase my credit limit by $50 every 6 months as long as I am making my payments and keeping good standing. In regards to the Tribute Card – Their fees are ridiculous!!!! They have an annual fee of $150 then a monthly fee of 9.95 ($119.40/year) – you only start with a credit limit of $300, after 6 months if you kept good they increase to $350 but that’s it, and the interest rate is horrible!! If you have poor credit and are for a card to help improve things I personally recommend the Total Card. I am currently planning on making sure I have my Tribute account paid off and closed prior to my having it a year because I do not want to be charged another annual fee. And even though I like the Orchard fees and interest, they give me no opportunity to grow and show I can have good credit. Until I can actually get a card for those that have “good” credit, my Total Card will stay with me!!!!

even though you can pay using the myccpay.com the site its hard to get to when you type it in directly. I've had to constantly search for ways into the site using other options. This is frustrating if you are trying to me the deadline for your payment to count for the next day. Is there an easier way?

The easiest way to pay is if you have a bill pay service with your bank. I have mind on autopay the paymycc site never works even when you can google to find it, which is a bit weird, you enter everything and get and error and they are not opened to help you. Mailing a check or using auto pay are the best way with this company. I have found their customer service to be excellent and they have been a huge help to my credit score making it well worth the annual fee ;)
